For this series of tablet paintings I was originaly inspired by a show of digital works by the artist David Hockney, that was held at the R.O.M. in 2011. I did some experimenting and found the medium to be very versatile and artist friendly. My original intent was to blur the line between traditional painting and digital painting. Colours turn, twist, drip and blend on a virtual canvas. I’m was interested in the dialogue of whether something could be painterly without actually utilizing paint?
Over the past few years I feel the paintings have grown into their own, shedding much of my original dialogue. They function for me as finished works that don't require a specific foil to bounce off of. Colours still turn and twist and drip, but they do so on their own accord, executed by my hand. Each image is an original, with an edition of 1.
